More Good Green News August 3, 2006March 4, 2017 HOWL, HOWL, HOWL, HOWL! I don’t get to read the Daily Howler often, but (thanks, Caro), this one from last week says so much about how ill-informed we are . . . and how badly the media have been informing us – even that likeable Chris Matthews. MORE GOOD GREEN NEWS Monday, I linked to a really encouraging, in-depth story on WalMart. They’ve begun going green. The impact could be large. Here’s another hopeful story; this one (thanks again, Caro), from the Economist a few months back, on a possible breakthrough in wind power. The idea is to harvest 43% to 45% of the wind’s available energy instead of the current 25% to 40% by using a different design – and to be able to operate even when the wind tops 65 miles an hour, not have to shut down at 50 miles an hour, as now. WHO THE HECK IS CARO? She is Carolyn Kay, one tough, committed MBA from the bayou, whose first presidential vote was for Barry Goldwater and whose life story is worth the two-minute read. She devotes much of her breast-cancer-surviving energy to fending off what she sees as encroaching fascism. (‘When fascism comes to America,’ Sinclair Lewis wrote, ‘it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying the cross.’)
