Surgery By My Pillow Guy September 8, 2020September 7, 2020 What’s wrong with this picture? If you want to turn North Carolina blue, chip in a few bucks to attend this Zoom. To which I would add that the 81 Nobelists endorsing Biden didn’t win their prizes for literature, much as I love a good book. They won for science and medicine. Is there a single Nobel prize winner — least of all for science or medicine — endorsing Trump? It’s true — and regrettable — that many Trump fans feel looked down upon by the elites (and what is more elite than a Nobel Prize?). The irony is that, where Trump privately looks down on them as “losers” and “suckers,” most of my privileged friends are giving big to make good health care and good wages and good education — and respect — available to everyone. Just as Trump enthusiasts would want a deeply competent surgeon operating on their child, so do we somehow have to persuade them to want — or at least not despise — deeply competent people in government. Even though that competence often comes with elite credentials. This is an awful man, waving a book he hasn’t read, in front of a church he doesn’t attend, invoking laws he doesn’t understand, against fellow Americans he sees as enemies, wielding a military he dodged serving, to protect power he gained via accepting foreign interference, exploiting fear and anger he loves to stoke, after failing to address a pandemic he was warned about, and building it all on a bed of constant lies and childish inanity. — Robert Hendrickson, Rector at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church, Tucson, Arizona SUPER BONUS: Rick Estrin and the Nightcats: Dump That Trump!
